Jacinto Soler Matutes holds a PhD in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Barcelona (UB), with a doctoral thesis on foreign investment in China, under the supervision of the former Dean of China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Prof. Alfredo Pastor. Prior to his Doctorate, he did postgraduate studies on emerging economies at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland) and the Institute of World Economics (Germany).
He has published several books and studies on emerging economies such as China, India and Arab countries. He has been an Associate Professor at the School of East Asian Studies of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) between 2006 and 2013.
He has been an advisor to public institutions such as Casa Asia, Casa Árabe, Prodeca, Port of Barcelona, Port of Algeciras, the Catalan employers¡¯ association PIMEC or the Andorran employers' association CEA, as well as of private companies such as Abertis, Grupo Osborne, Borges or Autostrade per l'Italia (Atlantia).
Jacinto has worked on cross-border investment deals with China, such as the 2013 acquisition of Barcel¨® Santiago Hotel in Spain by China¡¯s Chongking Kangde Group (www.cqkangde.com) for € 42 million. More recently, he advised Nanjing Jiadel Medical Technology Co. Ltd. in the purchase of a 7%-stake in the Spanish provider of advanced medical equipment Neos Surgery (www.neosurgery.com).
